Gator Gardens – Parent Volunteers Needed

We are looking to have a few volunteers that would be available during school hours to assist with our Gator Gardens in front of the school. They would be helping the grade 1s out with sowing seeds to their assigned raised garden beds. Some gardening experience is helpful but not required.

Citizenship Ceremony – April 22, 2026

We were very fortunate to host a Canadian Citizenship Ceremony at Westgate School this week, where 46 individuals officially became Canadian citizens. During the ceremony, participants took the Oath of Citizenship and received their certificates, marking this important milestone.

Our Grade 6 students contributed in a meaningful way by creating beautiful maple leaves to share with the new citizens. Each leaf included a personal reflection on what it means to be Canadian, helping to make the experience even more welcoming and memorable for everyone involved.

School Bus Driver Appreciation Day – May 4

CBE Transportation staff will be visiting schools and bus yards to personally thank drivers for their service. We are very grateful at Westgate to be working with such kind, reliable and dedicated bus drivers.

We encourage families to show appreciation in their own unique way, whether through a note, a small gesture, or a simple thank-you. Your recognition helps reinforce the important role drivers play in supporting student safety and success.

Think Fast Comedy Residency – May 19-June 1

The Think Fast Comedy residency is a program for all students in Grades 1–6 that supports the development of spoken French in a fun and engaging way. During the residency, a professional bilingual comedian works with students through interactive skits and games designed to encourage spontaneous communication.

These activities help students build confidence in speaking French, take risks with language, and respond naturally in the moment. By creating a playful and supportive environment, the program allows students to practice their oral language skills without fear of making mistakes, which is key to developing fluency.

Overall, the residency is a valuable opportunity for students to strengthen their communication skills, increase their comfort with speaking French, and experience the joy of using the language in authentic and creative ways.
