Provincial Achievement Tests (PAT) are part of a balanced, broad-based program of student assessment for Grades 6 and 9 students. The results provide some of the information that guides our educators as they set targets for student achievement and track the results of school improvement initiatives. Visit the CBE website for more information on our students’ provincial testing.

Teachers will remain focused on delivering the programs of study for all courses and will continue to assess student achievement based on the grade level outcomes as determined by the Government of Alberta.

Provincial Achievement Tests 2024-2025

Dear Parents/Guardians,

In May and June of this year, Grade 6 students across the province will participate in the Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs).  Grade 6 Science and Grade 6 French Immersion Language Arts Literature (FILAL) will not be administered in the 2024/25 school year.  Grade 6 Social Studies PAT will be administered and will continue to reflect the existing Grade 6 Social Studies programs of study.  Grade 6 Math and Grade 6 English Language Arts and Literature (ELAL) will be administered and will reflect the new curriculum.

Results from these tests will provide Alberta Education, school administrators, teachers, parents/guardians, students and the public with information about what students know and can do in relation to provincial standards at the end of Grade 6.

Provincial Achievement Tests are based on what students have been learning throughout the school year, so they will be marked by teachers before they are returned to Alberta Education in June.

School staff share preliminary results with parents after the PAT administration.  Individual Student Profiles (ISPs) are available to schools in the fall of the following school year.  School staff then share the ISPs with parents or parents can access results directly using myPass.  A record of the ISP will be retained electronically in the student record.  This profile is prepared by Alberta Education after the marking and scoring of tests has been completed and the final scores are calculated; it will present your child’s performance on each test in relation to provincial standards.

Reports that show how well our school’s students did as a group in relation to provincial standards, will be available at our school and on our school’s website in the Fall of 2025-26.  Parents/Guardians are invited to our November School Council Meeting to discuss the results at that time.

If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Julie Muhlberger
