Meet the Teacher Night and Kindergarten Conferences – DATE CHANGE
We are really looking forward to welcoming Westgate families to the school this year for “Meet the Teacher Night” for grades 1-5 on Thursday, September 17 from 5:00-6:15PM. Kindergarten Student Learning Conferences will be held on September 17 and 25. Please click here for more detailed information.
Drop and Go! Loading and Unloading Zone – North Side of School on 8th Ave
Please use this zone to stop and/or park to unload your children up to a maximum of 10 minutes, even though the sign says “No Parking” at the top. There is a teacher supervisor present in this area from 7:45-7:55am to ensure students make their way safely to their entrance.
Fun Lunch
Please consider supporting our Healthy Hunger Lunch fundraisers. This is a fun way to support school initiatives while getting a much-needed break from packing school lunches (Grades 1-6). Popcorn days are also a great way to provide a fun snack to students (including our kindergarten classes).
To participate in Fun Lunches, please register for a Heathy Hunger Account and order here.
Bottle Drive – Save your Bottles!
Westgate Parents Society is hosting a bottle drive Thursday, September 17 from 4:30-6:30pm during meet the teacher night. All funds raised will help cover school learning materials/equipment and on-site learning experiences. Look for the Bowness Bottle Depot truck parked along 8 Avenue on the north side of the school. Last year we raised $617.
Terry Fox Run – Save the Date
Hello parents! Our Terry Fox Run is coming soon. Remember to send your child to school with a good pair of runners and a water bottle. Our Terry Fox Run is on September 24 at 1:45-2:15pm. You’re welcome to come and watch or join in the run. We ask that all students enter the school with their teacher for dismissal after the run. Thank you for your support in making our Terry Fox Run a successful event.
Orange Shirt Day - September 29
Orange shirt day is held annually on September 30. It is an opportunity for all people to come together in the spirit of reconciliation. Orange Shirt Day began in 2013 when residential school survivor, Phyllis Webstad, shared how her orange shirt was taken away on her first day at a residential school. As there are no classes on September 30, National Indigenous Peoples Day, students are encouraged to wear an orange t-shirt Tuesday, September 29.
