Welcome Back Assembly 

We had our welcome back assembly with students yesterday! It was so much fun to have everyone in our learning community come together excited about the year ahead. We introduced the staff and talked about our school values (chosen by students at Westgate): Collaboration, Communauté and Respect. Thank you to our Grade 6 student leaders who shared the Acknowledgement of the Land and who presented a skit about Fair Play at Westgate. We listened to a story about filling our own and one another’s buckets and everyone got moving and singing to our traditional Westgate song, C’est Comme Ça Ici (Gregg LeRock). It is going to be a great year of learning ahead! 

Literacy and Numeracy Assessments – Grades 1 to 3  

Starting next week, teachers will begin administering literacy and numeracy assessments with their students. Please see the attachment here to gain a better understanding of what is entailed and why they are being administered.

Annual Forms 

A reminder to families that the following forms must be completed online in SchoolEngage by Monday, September 16. 

  • Demographic Verification 2024-25 – This form includes your child’s personal information as well as parent / legal guardian contact information. 
  • Citizenship Information Update 2024-25 – This form becomes available if you change your child’s citizenship information on the Demographic Verification form. 
  • Annual Authorization 2024-25 – This form provides consent for school and district use of personal information as well as Consent for Use of Student Information 
  • Annual Volunteer Registration 2024-25 – (Not mandatory) Complete only if you wish to volunteer. 

SchoolEngage is one of the applications found in your MyCBE account. This is the same account that you use to pay fees, view academic information, book school conferences, etc.  

If you do not have a MyCBE account, on the MyCBE page click on Create a MyCBE Account. For online help refer, to MyCBE - Creating an Account (includes instructions and a video). 

To complete these forms:  

1 | sign in to your MyCBE account 
2 | click on the SchoolEngage icon 
3 | select the form 
4 | complete or review and update the form 
5 | click on Submit to send the form electronically to the school  
6 | repeat steps 3-5 for each form 

French for Parents! 

Chinook Learning Services offers courses specifically designed for parents and caregivers of CBE French Immersion students. For Fall 2024, Chinook Learning Services is once again offering French for Parents – Level 1 classes at Georges P. Vanier School. This eight-week course will help parents of bilingual students learn or refresh their French language skills, build their network of bilingual parents, and support their children’s learning at home.
