Parent Society – Appreciation

On behalf of all Westgate staff and students, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to our Parent Society for their incredible generosity and ongoing support of our school community.

At Thursday’s Parent Society meeting, members approved funding for a variety of exciting initiatives, including a whole-school art residency in March, Year 3 of Frisbee Rob, an opera performance, Folkfolie, Cabane à Sucre, and classroom carpets. In addition, each grade team will receive funding to support curriculum-enriching experiences, classroom learning materials, and field trips.

These generous contributions provide meaningful opportunities that enhance student learning, foster creativity, and create memorable experiences for our students.

We would also like to extend a special thank you to the many parents who generously volunteer their time and energy at fundraising events and casinos throughout the year. It is because of your dedication, hard work, and commitment to our school community that these wonderful opportunities are possible.

We are truly fortunate to have such a supportive and engaged parent community. Thank you for making a difference in the learning experiences of our Westgate Gators!

Seasonal changes

Well it has happened. After a beautiful, seemingly never-ending fall, we had our first taste of winter today at Westgate. A gentle reminder that we go outside every day unless it is below –20C with wind chill (CBE policy)! Please send your children dressed to be able to enjoy their time outside. Often the wind can make it feel even colder than it is and it is no fun to be wet all day. Please also remind your children to take off their winter footwear at the doors to help Mr. Ashraf ensure the school stays clean and dry for socked feet to make their way to class. And lastly, we will be reminding students of ways they can have fun in the snow without throwing snowballs so that everyone stays safe.

Gator Gear Fridays

Students are encouraged to wear their Gator Gear on Fridays or the Westgate colors of blue and green to show their Gator pride :-)

Halloween

On Friday, October 30, students are invited to dress in their Halloween costumes.

If your child chooses to participate, please send them to school dressed in their costume that is comfortable for them to wear for the day.  Inflatable costumes or costumes that include weapons, masks or face coverings or costumes of a violent or gory nature are not permitted. Morning Kindergarten classes will participate on Thursday, October 29.

We ask that parents not send candy, food or other items, as we cannot distribute or share them with students.

Lost and Found

Our lost and found is extremely full of lost items. If you wish to come to the school to look through the lost and found during school hours, please enter through the main entrance and sign in at the office.

Items that are not claimed, will be donated to charity.

Retake and Class Photo Day

Photo retakes and class photos will take place on Monday, November 9. Children that were absent from school on the original photo day or who are new to the school will have their picture taken on Retake Day.

For children who require retakes, please check the “retake request box” at the bottom of the photo order form and return it with your child to give to the photographer on retake day. If you have lost the proof sheet, please send a handwritten note with your child to request a retake.

Celebrating the Cultures of Our School Community! November 26

During our upcoming School Conferences, we would love to invite families to share and celebrate their cultural heritage with our school community! Families who are interested in participating will have the opportunity to set up a display between 3:00 and 7:00 p.m., where they can showcase aspects of their culture through traditional foods, clothing, artifacts, photographs, and other meaningful items.

Tables and chairs will be provided upon request. Families are welcome to set up in the hallway near the main office. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students, families, and staff to learn about and appreciate the rich cultural diversity that makes our school community so special.

We hope many families will consider participating and helping us celebrate the cultures and traditions that enrich our Westgate community!

Please email Madame Julie if you are interested (jamuhlberger@cbe.ab.ca)
