Last week for "Spring into Reading" – ends on April 16!

Spring is in the air, and so is a great story! This is the last week to participate in Spring into Reading.

Please support your child with their progress! All bingo sheets turned into the classroom teacher by April 16 will qualify for a prize draw. There will be a prize draw for individual entries as well as a class prize for the class with the most turned in bingo sheets. Bingo sheets are considered complete when a student has crossed off one or more straight lines. There is a special prize entry for a blackout when all boxes have been crossed off. There will be additional literacy-themed activities at school through this time as well. We are grateful to the Parents’ Society for organizing these activities to get our kids energized about reading. Happy reading!

Reminder – No Parking at Westgate Community Association

Due to ongoing safety concerns, the Westgate Community Association has restricted parking lot access for Westgate School and Child’s Play families before and after school. As a result, parents are also asked not to use the staff parking lot on the east side, as this creates congestion and safety concerns.

The north-side park-and-drop zone continues to run smoothly and is the best option for quick and efficient drop-off and pick-up.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping keep our students safe.

Volunteer Opportunity

This is a friendly reminder from the Parents’ Society that each Friday we have a “Worker Bee” team come in and help out teachers with a variety of tasks. This is a fun way to get involved in the school and meet other parents! If you are interested in coming just occasionally or regularly, please sign up here:

Think Fast Comedy Residency – May 19-June 1

The Think Fast Comedy residency is a program for all students in Grades 1–6 that supports the development of spoken French in a fun and engaging way. During the residency, a professional bilingual comedian works with students through interactive skits and games designed to encourage spontaneous communication.

These activities help students build confidence in speaking French, take risks with language, and respond naturally in the moment. By creating a playful and supportive environment, the program allows students to practice their oral language skills without fear of making mistakes, which is key to developing fluency.

Overall, the residency is a valuable opportunity for students to strengthen their communication skills, increase their comfort with speaking French, and experience the joy of using the language in authentic and creative ways.
