Recognizing Important People in our Lives
At Westgate, we value and celebrate the many important people in our students’ lives who support and care for them. We recognize that families acknowledge occasions such as Mother’s Day and Father’s Day in different ways.
With this in mind, we are taking a more inclusive approach this year by supporting students in expressing appreciation for the special people in their lives—whether that be mothers, fathers, caregivers, or others who are meaningful to them. This may happen at various times throughout the year and could include gestures such as creating cards, participating in special learning activities, or inviting loved ones to join in classroom experiences.
GatorFest
GatorFest will be Thursday, May 28 from 4:30-6:30pm. This event takes place rain or shine, and is held both indoors and outdoors. Please look for the flyer coming home in your students' backpacks for important information regarding the event.

Westgate Volunteer Appreciation Tea
A huge part of what makes Westgate School such a wonderful place to be is that we work together as a community to support students. We couldn't do this without the involvement of our amazing volunteers. From joining us on field trips, reading with students, helping with popcorn and special lunch days, helping in the classroom, to behind the scenes organizing and so much more, we appreciate it all. Thank you for the difference you make. We would like to come together to recognize you! Join us for our volunteer tea on May 28, 2026 from 11 :00 -12:30. Please RSVP by clicking on this link so that we can plan for numbers. Looking forward to seeing you there!
Gator Gardens – Parent Volunteers Needed
We are looking to have a few volunteers that would be available during school hours to assist with our Gator Gardens in front of the school. They would be helping the grade 1s out with sowing seeds to their assigned raised garden beds. Some gardening experience is helpful but not required. If you are able to help, please email westgate@cbe.ab.ca.
Think Fast Comedy Residency – May 19-June 1
The Think Fast Comedy residency is a program for all students in Grades 1–6 that supports the development of spoken French in a fun and engaging way. During the residency, a professional bilingual comedian works with students through interactive skits and games designed to encourage spontaneous communication.
These activities help students build confidence in speaking French, take risks with language, and respond naturally in the moment. By creating a playful and supportive environment, the program allows students to practice their oral language skills without fear of making mistakes, which is key to developing fluency.
Overall, the residency is a valuable opportunity for students to strengthen their communication skills, increase their comfort with speaking French, and experience the joy of using the language in authentic and creative ways.
