Carnaval – Thank you!
What an outstanding turn out and show of community spirit yesterday. A HUGE thank you to everyone who pitched in to make this event happen: from donating items, to set up/clean up, supervising, crepe station, hot chocolate stations, making flyers, organizing food trucks, the list goes on. Seeing volunteers jump-in as needed yesterday was much appreciated as well.
You are an amazing bunch!
On behalf of Westgate School council & Parents' Society, and the students and staff of the school, THANK YOU!
A special thank you to Vanessa Huey, Holly Joy Stanford and Stephanie Paquet for organizing this event.
Valentine’s Day Cards
Students may share Valentine’s Day cards with their classmates, but please ensure to include all students. We would like to ask parents to refrain from sending food items for students to share in class. Also, please do not include food items with Valentine’s Day cards to give to students. If you have questions related to Valentine’s Day activities, please communicate with your child’s classroom teacher.
Special Events for February
February is an exciting month with many celebrations and school events going on. This month, we will celebrate and recognize Carnaval d’hiver, Black History Month/le mois de l’histoire des Noirs, Lunar New Year and the start of Ramadan.
In addition to these, in-class Carnaval activities will take place in classrooms and throughout the school though out the week. This will include a Manie Musicale Québécoise, histoire collaborative, and Bonhommes cachés.
Gently Used Spirit Wear Sale
As true believers of the sustainable clothing movement, we are planning a special sale of gently used Westgate School spirit wear. This event will help ensure that all students, regardless of income level, have the opportunity to participate in spirit days with pride.
In preparation for this sale, we are collecting gently used Westgate spirit wear which your family no longer uses.
Donations can be placed in the bin outside of the office.
Thank you so much. There will be more information to come in the next couple of weeks.
Report Card Update
Report cards will be available for parents to view through their MyCBE account on February 24 and will be available to view until May 29. This date was postponed from the usual end of January date due to the October learning disruption.
Next Year (Kindergarten – Grade 5)
If you know that your child will NOT be attending Westgate School next year, please let the office know by Monday, February 9.
Next Year (Grade 6)
If you know that your Grade 6 child will NOT be attending Bishop Pinkham School next year, please let the office know before Monday, February 9.
Pink Shirt Day
In response to a new Grade 9 student being bullied for wearing a pink shirt, two Nova Scotia high school students took a stand against bullying by distributing pink shirts to all the boys in their school to wear. This act of kindness has grown into a symbol against bullying in schools across the globe.
On Wednesday, Feb. 25, wear a pink shirt to help spread kindness and a sense of belonging!
Promoting inclusion is something that occurs in our schools every day. Check out some of the information and resources available!
