Wellness
As a whole school, we have been focusing on the Zones of Regulation to establish common language and understanding around emotions. This work helps support our School Development Plan by targeting self-awareness and self-management strategies. This learning will help students develop the skills and learn strategies needed to work through these emotions and reach their potential as learners.
Students discussed different scenarios and classified emotions into four different zones. Red Zone feelings can be anger, rage, extreme frustration, terror or panic. Yellow Zone feelings can be stress, frustration, anxiety, silliness, nervousness or confusion. Blue Zone feelings can be sad, tired, low energy, hurt, sick or bored. Green Zone feelings can be happy, focused, content, peaceful or calm. Ask your child to tell you what they learned about the four zones. We encourage you to use these four zones when discussing feelings at home as this will help reinforce their learning.
Carnaval
We are looking forward to celebrating Carnaval next week! Our Francophone club students have helped brainstorm the activities. We will have find the Bonhomme activities, door decorating, jeu de bûcherons in the gym, tug of war, collaborative school stories, cabane à sucre (Sugar Shack), and French-Canadian music. Students can dress up as bûcherons on Thursday, February 6.
On Thursday, February 6 from 4:30-6:30pm all Westgate families are invited to attend the special outdoor celebration Carnaval de Westgate. This event is completely outdoors (except for limited access to indoor washrooms). This Westgate Parents' Society sponsored event is free for everyone to attend. Students and teachers will be engaging in activities celebrating culture and all things winter throughout the week; to wrap up this fun filled week, Carnaval de Westgate will feature outdoor games, snow shoeing, hot chocolate, food trucks, a crepe station, festive music as well as ice skating on our community rink - all weather permitting of course! Alongside the hot chocolate, water bottles will be available.
Grab your mitts and toques and join us for an evening of fun and community building!!
These events would not be made possible without your help: We are looking for volunteer help to make this event successful. If you are able to volunteer your time or are able to donate items, please see the signup link: https://signup.com/go/xttvnxP
