OurSCHOOL Student Survey (Grade 4-6 students)
Between November 17-28, 2025, grade 4-6 students will be participating in an online school perception survey for students called the OurSCHOOL Student Survey. This anonymous survey is completely voluntary for all CBE students.
CBE’s Education Plan prioritizes student voice and well-being in our decision-making processes. Responses from this survey are used at the system and school level to recognize and improve what is necessary for students to feel safe, welcome, and cared for when at school.
If you have questions or would like to request more information about our upcoming implementation of the OurSCHOOL Student Survey, please contact Stephanie Leech saleech@cbe.ab.ca.
Bottle Drive
Westgate Parents' Society is hosting a bottle drive Thursday, November 27 from 3:00 to 7:00pm and Friday November 28 from 8:00am to noon during Student Learning Conferences. All funds raised will help cover on-site learning experiences such as Labelle sisters Indigenous Learning and equipment for our Maker Space.
Look for the Bowness Bottle Depot truck parked along 8 Avenue on the north side of the school between 5:30 and 7:00 pm on Thursday and between 10:30 and noon on Friday.
Not at Westgate during those times? No problem as you can drop off your bottles inside the main doors of the school when you can. A volunteer will bring them to the truck once it arrives on site. If you are able to volunteer for 15 minutes on Thursday around 5:30pm and/or Friday around 10:30am, please email westgateschoolcouncil@gmail.com. Thank you!
Book Fair – November 25-28, 2025
During the week of November 25-28, 2025, students will have an opportunity to select and purchase books from the Book Fair. You can send money with your child(ren) so they can purchase books when they visit the Book Fair with their class. Please be aware there are a wide variety of items available for purchase such as books, pencils, erasers, bookmarks, journals and highlighters. Please ensure you have a conversation with your child about responsible choices and a plan for their purchases.
We would also like to offer parents an opportunity to come to the school during the days and times below to purchase books. If you choose to visit the Book Fair during school hours or volunteer for the Book Fair, we ask that you do not request to pull your child out of class.

SnowBall - Volunteers Needed
We are excited to welcome everyone to the third annual "SnowBall" event. After last year’s huge success, we are back again this year on Thursday, December 4 from 4:30 - 6:30pm. Please note that there is no supervision provided between 2:30 and 4:30pm.
The main event, a school dance, will take place in the gym. Casual attire recommended. There are also other activities scheduled to take place throughout the school & outside – skating in the community rink if there is ice and the weather permits. This is a family celebration of the season and school community. Each family must have at least one parent/guardian present with their child(ren). The event is free to attend - free hot chocolate outside while supplies last!
More details to come in your child’s backpack next week. Keep an eye out for the flyer!
This event is hosted by our School Council & Parents' Society, and the only way for it to be successful is with volunteer support. We encourage family members and Westgate Alumni to volunteer as well. If the volunteer positions are not filled, individual activities will have to be cancelled. Please sign up for a shift if you are able. These shifts are short so you can enjoy the event and contribute to its success.
