Birthday Parties/Invitations

We remain committed to continuing our work in fostering a safe, inclusive, and welcoming school environment for all students. Invitations to out of school hosted events can contribute to feelings of exclusion in school when invitations to and stories/gifts from these events are a big part of the conversation in class. As such, we encourage parents and their children as much as possible to communicate with each other about these events outside of school time. Thank you for your support.

Lunch Garbage

In light of the current Facility Operator labour action, we are asking students to take their lunch garbage home with them in their lunch boxes. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Pink Shirt Day

In response to a new Grade 9 student being bullied for wearing a pink shirt, two Nova Scotia high school students took a stand against bullying by distributing pink shirts to all the boys in their school to wear. This act of kindness has grown into a symbol against bullying in schools across the globe.

On Wednesday, Feb. 26, wear a pink shirt to help spread kindness and a sense of belonging!

Promoting inclusion is something that occurs in our schools every day. Check out some of the information and resources available!

Ramadan

The beginning of Ramadan is right around the corner, starting on February 28. We love to highlight how students and families observe and celebrate various holidays at home and in their communities. If you would like to share any information, photos, or decorations that you use to observe Ramadan at home, please email Mme Sheena atsabboud@cbe.ab.ca.

Science Fair

For the past two months, Grades 5 and 6 students have been participating in the Westgate Science Club. Students have had opportunities to view and participate in science demonstrations and to learn about the scientific method.  Using this new knowledge they have undertaken a project on their own and are now almost finished and ready to present their findings.

Students will have the opportunity to present and demonstrate their projects at the Westgate Science Fair that will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. The Fair will be held in the gym throughout the entire day.

In order for the fair to be successful, we are looking for volunteers. We are in need of parent volunteers to help us set up in the morning, take down at the end of the day and judge. As a judge, listening and inquiring about a participant's project inspires the student to keep their interest in science beyond the Science Fair. The volunteer judging commitment is approximately 60 minutes to assess 3 to 5 projects, anytime during school hours, morning or afternoon. You don't need to prepare in advance or require special/previous experience. We will provide everything. It is a lot of fun talking to a student about their project! It is a great way to encourage our young scientists!  If you are available and interested in volunteering for any of these positions, please sign up using the following link
