Lunch Reminder
We are finding that some students are asking for extra food a little more often. Please check with your children that they have enough to eat for both recess and lunch.
Special Events for February
February is an exciting month with many celebrations and school events going on. This month, we will celebrate and recognize Carnaval d’hiver, Black History Month/le mois de l’histoire des Noirs, Lunar New Year and the start of Ramadan.
Pink Shirt Day
In response to a new Grade 9 student being bullied for wearing a pink shirt, two Nova Scotia high school students took a stand against bullying by distributing pink shirts to all the boys in their school to wear. This act of kindness has grown into a symbol against bullying in schools across the globe.
On Wednesday, Feb. 25, wear a pink shirt to help spread kindness and a sense of belonging!
Promoting inclusion is something that occurs in our schools every day. Check out some of the information and resources available!

Upcoming School Conferences – March 19-20
Prior to your conference time, please ensure you have thoroughly read your child(ren)’s report card(s). We encourage you to engage in conversation with your child about their progress in learning. Students are welcome to attend conferences with parents.
Residency: Mat Mailandt
We are excited for the return of Matt Mailandt to Westgate School. This year he will be joining classes for two weeks of improv and comedy sessions. Matt is a graduate of French immersion in Calgary, and his aim is to help students speak French spontaneously in a very fun and engaging way. Thank you, Parent Society, for making this great opportunity available to our students!

Calling all parents and guardians! Westgate School Council & Parents' Society will be hosting GatorFest 2026 on May 28, 2026 from 4:30-6:30pm. Please consider joining the event planning committee. This is your opportunity to bring new ideas and a fun way to be involved in the school community.
We will be holding an initial planning meeting Thursday, March 5 from 6:30-8:00pm at a location in Aspen (more details on exact location for those who RSVP ‘Yes’). The purpose of this meeting is to assign responsibilities for various tasks such as: preparing the lollipop tree, cake walk, organizing the prize wheel, 50/50 raffle etc. Please RSVP Yes before February 27 by emailing westgateschoolcouncil@gmail.com
If you are unable to attend the meeting, no worries! You can still help with the event planning process, just send an email to westgateschoolcouncil@gmail.com and we will include you on the event committee email list.
If you are interested in volunteering for GatorFest the day of the event, there will be a signup sheet available closer to the event date.

Gently Used Spirit Wear Sale
As true believers of the sustainable clothing movement, we are planning a special sale of gently used Westgate School spirit wear. This event will help ensure that all students, regardless of income level, have the opportunity to participate in spirit days with pride.
In preparation for this sale, we are collecting gently used Westgate spirit wear which your family no longer uses.
Donations can be placed in the bin outside of the office.
Thank you so much. There will be more information to come in the next few weeks.
