Recess Sports and Equipment
With the arrival of beautiful weather and ideal conditions for outdoor play, we've noticed more students bringing their own sports equipment to use during recess. While we encourage active play, please note that the school is not responsible for any lost or stolen personal equipment. Parents will be responsible for replacing any such items.
On another note, if any families have unused baseball mitts or catcher equipment we would welcome those donations.
Students are welcome to bring soccer balls; however, other equipment such as bats and helmets are not permitted for safety reasons. We are currently exploring options to provide safer baseball equipment at school for those interested in playing. Thank you for your understanding and support.
Thank you Mat Mailandt!
We are so grateful to have spent two fantastic weeks with Comedian Mat Mailandt. Students were amused and engaged while learning how to speak French spontaneously with their classmates. We look forward to welcoming Mat back to Westgate for future residencies.
Francophonie Club Event Success
For the third year in a row, we hosted Francophonie Club members from both Bishop Pinkham and Western Canada High School. Students from Grades 4 to 12 worked together to make bracelets, play French trivia, participate in improv with Mat Mailandt and be treated to French poutine! This is such a wonderful opportunity for Westgate students to learn about French immersion opportunities in their future schools for the older students to reconnect with their former schools and teachers. Sincere thanks to Mme Sheena, M. Julien and Mme Vanessa for organizing.
SoundKreations | Dance Residency
We are thrilled to welcome back SoundKreations for our annual dance residency. This year, Moises will be back with us again to teach us some Afro-fusion moves, Hip-Hop and Latin moves all through a DanceCOMBO program. Part of our Physical Education curriculum focuses on directional movement and patterns and sequences of movement in rhythmic and expressive activities. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn from an expert in the field of dance. Students will be learning moves in all three dance styles in this residency, which will run from April 30 - May 15.
