Manie Musicale
Westgate’s Manie Musicale has begun and the students are absolutely loving it! Students in all grades will continue to listen to and vote between a curated selection of 16 songs in a bracket style match-up. All entries in this tournament are en français and by francophone artists from all over the world! Two songs will battle it out every day until March 19… when one winner will be left standing. Which song will Westgate choose? Stay tuned! 🎶 Thank you Mme Erbracker for organizing this fabulous fun learning experience for our students!
Upcoming School Conferences – March 20-21
Student Learning Conferences will be held virtually this time around. You will receive a link from the conference system. Prior to your conference time, please ensure you have thoroughly read through your child(ren)’s report card(s) and be prepared with questions for the teacher. Report cards were available in PDF format on January 30 through your CBE PowerSchool account. Please do not access the link until the exact time of your conference. We encourage you to engage in conversation with your child about their own perspective of their performance at school, and feel free to include them in the conference!
Wellness
These past few weeks, the students at Westgate have been continuing to learn about the Zones of Regulation. At Westgate, students should be able to express that all zones are okay and when it is okay to be in each zone.
Students can describe a personal experience when they were in each zone and why it was okay to feel that way. Every emotion, whether positive, neutral, or negative, has a place in our lives. It’s not about eliminating uncomfortable feelings but learning to experience them fully, knowing they will pass and that we can grow through them.
Here are some “I can” statements that were the focus of our lessons that can help spark some conversation at home around regulation:
- I can identify and describe personal experiences with each zone and why it was okay to be in these zones
- I can describe how my body and mind feel in each zone
- I can describe how zones can be flexible, and I can experience different zones throughout the day.

We are very excited for the return of Matt Mailandt to Westgate School. This year he will be joining classes for two weeks of improv and comedy sessions.
