Watch Me Play Card – Recess

There are times when a student struggles to always make good decisions on how to play outside with peers. Teachers help students develop these skills but students still often need support. Supervisors are there to help students make good decisions, learn from their mistakes and equip them with strategies to help them moving forward. Our supervisors sometimes use a “Watch Me Play Card” for students who continue to struggle to make a good choice. Students present the card to a supervisor who then keeps a close eye on them and advise them as needed. At the end of recess, they return the card and ask “How did I play today?” getting feedback from the supervisor. The duration of the use of the card varies depending on the circumstances but the outcomes have been very positive. The classroom teacher as well as Mme Julie and Mme Stephanie are aware of the students using these cards and intervene as needed.

Special Lunch / Popcorn Day Volunteers Needed

Do you love food and volunteering? Are you looking for a fun way to spend some time at Westgate? We are looking to grow our team of parents who organize and distribute our Healthy Hunger lunches and popcorn. It's a super simple way to give back and get to know other Westgate families. Lunches occur monthly on Tuesdays. Volunteers must have a current police security clearance. Email Marnie at westgatelunchteam@gmail.com for more information and for the link to sign up!

Halloween

On Thursday, October 31, students are invited to dress in their Halloween costumes.

If your child chooses to participate, please send them to school dressed in their costume that is comfortable for them to wear for the whole day.  Inflatable costumes or costumes that include weapons, masks or face coverings or costumes of a violent or gory nature are not permitted.

We ask that parents not send candy, food or other items, as we cannot distribute or share them with students.
